Fire Safety Measures
Enhancing Fire Safety at the University of Oxford
In June 2024, the University of Oxford, renowned for its historic and academic significance, initiated a crucial fire safety project on the third floor of one of its buildings. The objective was to enhance passive fire protection in areas that initially lacked sufficient fire resistance
The university engaged Aleron, a specialist in passive fire protection, to execute the project. The primary focus was on installing fire-rated barriers designed as smoke barriers to bolster safety on the third floor. Aleron’s Fire Protection team employed batt insulation and mastic sealants to construct the fire-rated barriers. These materials were strategically placed to meet essential fire resistance ratings. Additionally, the team addressed various penetrations, including those for plastic pipes, ducts, cable bunches and lagged pipes, ensuring comprehensive firestopping measures were in place.
Upon successful completion, the third floor of the University of Oxford benefited from improved fire safety measures, providing a more secure environment for its academic community. This project underscored the university's commitment to safety and academic excellence.
This case exemplifies how targeted passive fire protection interventions can significantly enhance the safety of educational institutions, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards and safeguarding occupants.
